Lately at work, I’ve noticed a wonderful thing. RoC hires team members for their heart; their compassion and enthusiasm to help others. These are traits shared by everyone in the organization. The thing I’ve been noticing recently, though, is our differences. Several countries are represented while 5+ languages are spoken. Some are Colorado natives, others moved here only recently. Yet we’re all united in our mission to improve quality of life for our clients.
A quick update at the national level, for all of our fellow research nerds: The Institute of Medicine of the US National Academy of Sciences recently released a report on the health effects of cannabis. The report was originally published in 1999, and has been updated this year, with the most current assessment providing evidence that cannabis has proven medicinal uses for treating:
Furthermore, the Institute asked the government to allow further research to determine the effectiveness and possible risks associated with cannabinoid therapies. Now, as you can imagine, we here at the Realm of Caring Foundation are absolutely pleased to hear this. We started receiving anecdotal evidence daily in 2013 as to the therapeutic qualities, which is what eventually spurred our passion and persistence to create the Observational Research Registry, or ORR, as well as a partnership with Johns Hopkins University Medical School. So far, over 1,400 participants have enrolled.
What makes the ORR opportunity so wonderful is we encourage those using cannabinoid therapy as well as those NOT using, so we can get a good look at a control group, to compare exactly what improvements, if any, there are. If you, or someone you know, is interested in registering and participating, you can do so at this link. If you are interested in donating to our research efforts, you can do so at this link.
Welcome to the inaugural session of Mugs of RoC. We want our clients to get to know us, and what better, or more personal way, than the importance of an office staple: the coffee mug! I’m Nicole, Outreach Director, and your humble translator, on our adventure through the RoC office. We will talk with someone new each month, so stay posted.
Today, we start with Kathy, she’s the first person you see when you come into the office. She’s our security guard, office supply fairy, do-it-all super-woman who’s been known to clear a drain or two, in short, our Executive Administrator.
Nicole: “Say “Hi”, Kathy”
OK, let’s get to know Kathy….
We want to extend our sincerest thanks to Jake Plummer and all the wonderful supporters who were able to attend the Game Day with Jake “The Snake” Plummer on New Year’s Day. It was an absolute blast! We received so much positive feedback and engagement, that we hope to provide Game Day for TWO games this year, the season opener on 09/17/17, as well as New Year’s Day again! We would also like to thank Kyle Johnson, Reuben Droughns and Charlie Adams for hanging out and taking part to make the day as amazing as it was!
“We will be talking about it and remembering all the great memories for a long, long time! You folks did a great job.” - Jay and Kathy Reano, pictured above with the crew.

Dear Nicole and Realm of Caring,
I don’t even know where to start, I am so excited, and have to share this story with you.
I have been a member of RoC for over a year. Our 22-year-old daughter has suffered from seizures for 8 years now. Her condition is called dysautonomia. Similar to a migraine, she has seizures, instead of or in addition to, the pain of a migraine headache. Her blood pressure drops and so does she. Unconscious sometimes for over an hour! Learning about Charlotte’s Web hemp oil intrigued and excited me, hoping it could be a treatment for Celina’s dysautonomia symptoms. But living in Canada, as you know, we had to WAIT! There is no cure for dysautonomia. I actually took her to a special cardiologist in Toledo, Ohio for a diagnosis. Not much help in Canada. No anticonvulsant medications helped her either. Similar to the many stories YOU hear every day. An absolute nightmare, looking for answers! Finally, when you wrote to tell me CW was available in Canada I ordered some for Celina, and myself (insomnia and anxiety due to her illness). The Canadian Border didn’t take long to shut it down, as you know. It’s available again…but my daughter isn’t so sure about it. I told her she should take a higher dose, as it has not helped her yet, but she is reluctant. Anyways, that is the brief history of why I know about RoC.
Several months ago in your newsletter, you included a story about a home based Louisiana business, called SECONDLINE JEWELS that supports RoC through their charity proceeds. Roz and Collin get CW oil for their son Finn who has nocturnal seizures. You even highlighted his story in your newsletter. They make jewelry out of broken or recycled drum cymbals.
I was instantly intrigued…because…
Tragically our beloved 23-year-old son Carson died in a car accident on August 1st, 2015. He is a musician, artist, and gardener at heart. Yes, he plays drums, and more recently learned how to play piano…and made & recorded his first solo CD just months before the accident. I was so excited when I read about Secondline Jewels and so I emailed Roz and Collin to ask if they could receive a cymbal from me in Canada, to make jewelry gifts for my husband, me, and our other 3 kids and spouses. They agreed and will be making a donation to Realm of Caring!!! So TODAY the parcel from Louisiana arrived in our little town called Oliver, just north of the Washington State Border above Seattle. I have been so excited about these gifts, I chose a jewelry piece for everyone from their website, and they used Carson’s cymbal to create each piece. I just wrapped them all up for Christmas.
Also when I sent them Carson’s cymbals I sent them his CD and a few family photos. They sent a photo of the two of them, plus MY photos (on the wall in their workshop) and Carson’s cymbal, with the jewelry cut outs,…so that I could place a photo inside each Christmas gift.
It’s been a nightmare, this grieving journey. 16 months seem like days or weeks. Our 4 kids are super close. It’s been a struggle I could never have imagined, even being a nurse and hospice volunteer. Proceeded by our daughter’s illness and many hospitalizations and ambulance rides, the stress has been mountainous, but I found I am more able to cope taking CBD for anxiety. Still working on my insomnia, taking cannabis cookies for that. I had hoped high doses of CBD would help me sleep but I guess I still need a bit of THC.
Roz and I have developed a special bond. We have been emailing lots and sending each other family photos. We both thought it would be cool to share OUR STORY with you. See how Realm of Caring brought us together??!! I think God sent you to both of us, for Finn and for Celina. And now we are joined even more by Secondline Jewels. With thanksgiving and appreciation,
I first bought the oil to combat stress, as drugs have failed me or worsened my condition. Anxiety feels physically painful at the extreme; I now lead a much calmer, peaceful existence with absolutely no mood impairment or cover up. Elixinol works nearly instantly when administrated under my tongue.
Here's a list of results thus far:
We have received a lot of questions about the recent statement released by the DEA in regards to cannabinoid products. We know a lot of individuals who rely on these products to help improve their quality of life and overall health, and hope to help clarify the impact this action will have for our beloved clients.
First of all, we at RoC are not lawyers, and are still reviewing the "rule" with several leaders in the hemp and medicinal cannabis industries. From these collaborations and studying several legal opinions, we expect our RoC Approved product companies to go on with business as usual, allowing our clients to continue receiving the therapies they rely on.
I have been diagnosed with PPPD (Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness), PTSD, high blood pressure, Diabetes Type 2, and high LDL and Triglycerides. I have lived with migraines and severe dizziness 24/7 since 2011 and have suffered from the migraines as long as 2005. I was prescribed twelve different antidepressants and antipsychotics and they all made me extremely suicidal and depressed. I was out of ideas and was ready to call it quits.
My doctor, neurologist, and two psychiatrists recommended I check out CBD oil for help. I started doing research and about 2 months went by before I tried contacting Realm of Caring. They were very friendly and helpful through the entire process of me asking questions, etc. After about 2 months on Charlotte's Web Everyday Advanced CBD Oil, I began to realize that my horrible thoughts were going away. I have been on CBD since July of this year and can now laugh again and have almost zero thoughts of suicide anymore. For someone who lived with the thoughts every single day of his life since he was very little, this is a wonderful change. My blood pressure checks out perfect every time I visit the doctor now. My blood sugars are easier to control.
The only things left that I struggle with the high LDL/Triglycerides and the dizziness, which is extremely bad, but that's MUCH better than where I was just a few months ago. It's been worth it to me and my family and friends. I'm so glad that I decided to give this a try!
